I don’t think I have ever driven as much as I have in the last 48 hours. I’ve been on bits of road I’ve never traveled before, and that rarely happens. I’ve also been low on sleep (thank you traffic and early school starts), and apparently my subconscious decided to cram all the dreaming I had to do into a shorter, fascinatingly complex set of overlapping dreams. So somehow I found myself, last night, dreaming of trying to secure a meeting with the former president of Zimbabwe! Zim is a place that is coming up in conversation for me quite often at present, so perhaps I should take the hint and share some of my favourite music from across the border.
Neria came onto the radio a week ago, and my mum and I turned the volume up high as we rounded Hospital Bend. It is a beautiful piece.
I have a particularly delicate soft spot for the Mbira, and this piece by the sorely missed Chiwoniso is a glorious example of it’s sound.
I’ll be back tomorrow!
